The Classification Society congratulates the 2023 Distinguished Dissertation award winner, Dr. Cristina Molero-Río (École Polytechnique). Dr. Molero-Rio received her Ph.D. from the Department of Statistics and Operations Research at the University of Seville in 2022. The title of Dr. Molero-Rio’s thesis is “Enhancing Classification and Regression Tree-Based Models by Means of Mathematical Optimization’’.

Nuria Gómez Vargas, PhD Student at Instituto de Matemáticas de la Universidad de Sevilla (IMUS) has been one of the 25 awardees of the XIX Certamen Arquímedes of Introduction to Scientific Research among 567 participants from 65 Spanish universities. With the work “Development of Artificial Intelligence techniques for the photo‑identification of fish individuals” (available at https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ecoinf.2023.102036) she obtained the Accésit Plus Prize awarded by the Ministry of Universities of Spain and a Research Visit at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) awarded by Ministry of Science and Innovation of Spain (June 2022).
Professor Cynthia Rudin, NeEDS Scientific Leader at Duke University, wins Squirrel AI Award for Artificial Intelligence for the Benefit of Humanity, Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI), 2022. The most prestigious award in the field of artificial intelligence. Like the Nobel prize and Turing award, it carries a $1M prize. Read more about Cynthia Rudin here (October 2021)
